For ages (3 years) Sullivan Thurmond has reigned as our hairiest, smelliest, and smartest baby. With Ollie now taking the lead, its only fitting that I post a tribute to Sully. I've always been the night owl, working late on graduate school projects, paperwork, and now a part-time venture into the world of pediatric speech language pathology, as well as getting lost in Pinterest or amazing blogs that catch my eye. Sullivan has loyally laid by my feet through every late night, keeping me company, and my toes warm. He waits and waits, then trudges up the stairs behind me and escorts me to my room to make sure that I'm safe at night. He never fails. He is the most precious, gentle, protective friend. He is also extremely smart, and is able to read prosodic features! Please enjoy this example. Make sure your sound is turned up pretty high around 28-30 seconds for a funny surprise!!

We celebrated Christmas early this year, on Christmas Eve morning. Santa was good to Oliver. He brought Ollie a fire truck, a xylophone for the bathtub, a few books, a Lion Bead/maze toy, and a light up ball.

Ollie had fun opening his first presents from Santa!

After gifts, we enjoyed some yummy whole wheat pancakes. Ollie and mama laid down for Ollie's nap (a treat for mama- she likes cuddling, but we usually have to be disciplined and put baby ollie in his bed), and dad left for the two Christmas eve services at Summit Church.

Last night we celebrated with extended family, including great great aunts and uncles and great great grandpas. So fun. Ollie showed off just a little and said "mama" & "dada" when we asked him to, and also answered the questions "what does a puppy do?" by sticking out his tongue and panting, and "what does a fishy do?" by smacking his lips. Needless to say we were very proud first-time parents. We like to pretend no one has ever seen a baby say his first words or take his first steps.

This evening we will celebrate with our more immediate family, parents, sister, aunts and uncles, cousins, grandparents, great grandparents... and Ollie's Great Great Grandma Nita, 94 years young. It is a very special Christmas.

Christmas day we will head to Dallas to see Nick's side of the family, with a few little ones. Should be lots of fun!!

oops, i guess i took a little time off from the old blog.

i'll refrain from apologizing since my laziness probably didn't wreck your life. i mean, you can probably live without reading this stuff... i mean don't risk it. you should totally keep this blog bookmarked. but you might not die if i skip a post or two.

starting my life in the real world has been quite fun! it's not too different from graduate school, as most of my time was spent in clinicals- going to work with someone and doing speechy stuff while they supervise/work alongside you and critique/encourage! i won't bore you with the details, although if you're curious about them, i could talk about my clinicals for hours. i had some great, challenging, inspiring experiences! just ask :) back to the fun stuff! i received my first paycheck and didn't really splurge, just got some basics. i got a 3 pairs of maternity pants, and one shirt, but nothing extravagant. just essentials.

she is my second cousin, and one of the sweetest girls in the world!

look at her awesome, thick, red hair! love it!

great grandma nita, 93 years young, hanging out with marty, my grandma pat's cousin's son-in-law. even with extended family, we are tightly knit!

the head chef: granny pat!

she makes brisket that falls apart before you can get it to your mouth! it is sooo good! i'm so spoiled by her culinary skills that i never order brisket in restaurants anymore. too many let downs! she cooked for 2 solid days. i don't know when she had time to do the grocery shopping!

in an attempt to finish up our living room, i bought a settee on craigslist this weekend. i am drawn to rough linen, feed sacks, and nice velveteen with white wood trim for sweet little settees, but i'm thinking about going spunkier. This amy butler print is soo fun! i'm not sure why, but i keep coming back to it! i could lacquer the trim in a bright, glossy color, complementary to the fabric.... however, it's a little obnoxious. not sure if it will make it onto this piece!

any suggestions?

waiting for my nails to dry, i stumble across a blog of a photographer. i didn't realize she was based in nashville... didn't really know anything about her. as i was perusing her lovely blog i saw a picture of a friend of mine!

joe contains the most fun packed into one person. seriously. he traveled with us for a summer and just completely made traveling in a van all over the country for days super fun. i am a huge fan of impersonations and there are none better than his. he is a walking, talking, ever changing saturday night live sketch. enough about his brilliant personality- you guys don't care! i'm assuming you do care about his music- and you should. i didn't realize his cd was out yet! i am downloading it now... i cannot wait! i remember hearing some of his early projects in his car in the embassy suites parking lot (it's not what you think. the band had a weekend gig there). from that moment i was excited for what he would do next! he's a great keys player, but he has so so much to offer on his own album. i'm so happy for him!

a friend of mine with a super cute blog donned some mint green nailpolish to church yesterday. i remembered the mint green i bought from the essie 2009 winter collection, a few months ago. i had been waiting to break it out... the weather has been sooo wintery this year! it was finally spring-ish, and time to break out the yummy polish! yesssss. thanks savannah! ha. hers is a great mint green by china glaze. it looked fabulous! could be that she's just the cutest person in the world, but i like to think that this nail polish might help me have a fraction of her cuteness. she is just the greatest! celebrate spring with us & go out and grab some china glaze mint green or essie "mint candy apple"!

first try:

not super crazy about it, but it was tolerable, cheap, and i needed a light. we had a house guest this weekend. nick got it out of the box and it was messed up... couldn't even try it out. decided to take it back and attempt to order online.

after searching for an hour to find this light again, I ordered the 2 light version of this:

would have liked the 3 light version, but our teeny bathroom's shower curtain rod would have touched it and inhibited the dangle of the crystals. shouldn't be a problem because i am adding a light where the heater used to be! the heater was old and was never used, so a pendant light will be hung in it's place! yay! i have some ideas... i'll post pics once the DIY is finished!

as you know, i am in grad-school. one of the clinical opportunities i get to be a part of is the cleft palate clinic though my school. we get a chance to practice our skills in a no-pressure environment. a seasoned professor will be there to do his own evaluating after we give it our best shot. sounds great, huh? as interested as i am in the field, this snow has given me another free day, and i am grateful! so, clinic was cancelled and i slept in! YAY! i've been so lazy. i MADE myself shower and adorn my face with make-up. i'm letting my freshly shorn hair air dry to see what it will look like. to my amazement, it pretty much looks the same, so you can bet i'll be craigslisting my blowdryer!

i'm dying to take some pictures of the wintery bliss, but for now, i need to finish this. in obnoxiously red acrylic. i try not to buy acrylic since it is synthetic and takes oil to manufacture it, but in my defense, it was freecycled!

we needed rain. it was dry. in early spring we needed rain. then it didn't stop raining for almost a month. oklahoma is crazy. and i love it. i love when small town churches pray for rain for their fields.

a gentle reminder to rely on GOD. everything good and perfect comes from HIM.

if you would like to pick your own strawberries, come on out! what a fun date.... you could even picnic under our trees. i would share them with you. how romantic. bring a quilt and something to drink. watch the sunset. i could plan an awesome date! or, pick a pint of strawberries for a fun girls afternoon. just do it. summer could be over before you stop to savor it... and that would be sad. enjoy the small things with the ones you love. can't really tell you why i haven't blogged since before finals... in fact i started writing this post with an apology. i quickly remembered my aversion to "forced" relationships, chores, obligations, etc. and hit delete. i am promising myself that this will be a fun, stress free place for me to document memories and thoughts... and that no one really reads this besides my MOH (maid of honor & bestie since 3rd grade, darcie challis).

these chickens lay eggs in multiple colors.... very cool. everyday they are let out to roam (free range) and they get lots of yummy nutrients and diverse cuisine to flavor their eggs and make them rich in color & nutrients. i'm such a fan. it's cool to eat green eggs. brown ones too!

please please shop local and support our farmers. if you are interested in some free range eggs we have a ton every day! AND you pick them up on our farm, using the honor system. can you believe it? believe it. everyone should buy their eggs less than 50 feet from where they're laid :D

We found these beside our house, just in time for EASTER! YAY! They are teeny! Just look at how big the grass is compared to their little bodies! I love little bitty baby bunnies.

Thank you sweet puppy for hanging around my feet while I study (long hours). Thank you amazing Mr. Thurmond for doing dishes, cooking dinner, and CLEANING. what? just because you thought our baby would be the color of watered down skim milk doesn't mean it has to be! little *Z* is the sweetest, prettiest, happiest baby. her mom really is doing a great job! we get to love this little joy baby every sunday at church!!! ahh! i really could not love another baby (that isn't mine) more! i'm smitten. so is nick, by the way. after the service is over i say hi to sugar and "borrow" her baby. then, i search everywhere for nick and usually end up on the stage letting him say hi while he is packing up (mobile church, for now!). this little one is a huge testament to the Lord. she is the cutest miracle i've ever seen. cuter than i was as a baby... and probably you, too. no offense, of course.... and she's probably cuter than your babies as well. don't be mad. and don't ask me in person if your little one *really* isn't/wasn't as cute. i will have to say no, and this could pose an awkward conversation. just don't test me on this, ok?

*and she loves reading books. she's only 4 months old now (this pic was taken a while back)... what a GREAT mom & grandma!

i love my salt and pepper shaker set from my in-laws (i told you they were great)! this little thing has a twin, just as cute. i like turquoise accents with my cream furniture/dishes...so sweet. i also enjoy how "green" my mother-in-law is. she loves estate sales and i reap the benefits. perfect! happy snow day! i'll post some more pictures soon.

well, bread baby is still in the machine... what I can see doesn't look to great.... i'm thinking it didn't rise. oh well... i followed the directions the best i could... i'm over it!

today has been icy and freeeeezing, but the good kind of cold with less than knock-you-down wind.

*update: my classes are cancelled tomorrow... YESSSSSSS!! looks like i have a lovely crafty night ahead :D also, uh, the oatmeal bread didn't turn out very well... it didn't mix?! maybe i'll try mixing it up first next time... or just without a bread machine.... who knows. at least i have all day tomorrow to work on it!

I have awesome in-laws.

For PART of my birthday they gave me their bread machine... she said she doesn't use it much anymore... I'm not sure if that's true, or if they're just being their typical super-nice-selves... either way, clinic was cancelled, so today I'm making bread!

So exciting! I hear it's not easy...wish me the best please!
